President Tinubu pledges to "remake" Nigeria into its "better self" in independence day speech

 Nigeria's  President, Bola Tinubu, has pledged to "remake" the country into its "better self" in his first independence day speech. Tinubu, who was sworn in in May, said that the country had faced "serial challenges" since its independence from Britain in 1960, but that it was now time to move forward. "We can only achieve our better Nigeria through courage, compassion and commitment as one indivisible unit," he said. Tinubu also announced a number of measures to help ease the cost of living crisis, including a temporary wage increase for low-paid workers and a new investment fund for states.

UNICEF Raises Alarm Over Diphtheria Outbreak in Nigeria, Urges Widespread Vaccination
