Meta Unveils Blue Check Verification Option for Businesses, Providing Exclusive Benefits and Assistance

Meta Platforms Now Allow Businesses to Obtain Blue Check Verification, Offering Enhanced Features and Priority Support

In a recent announcement, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg introduced an expansion of the blue check verification system, allowing businesses on Meta platforms to acquire this coveted symbol. Previously, Meta had introduced Meta Verified for creators, a subscription service priced at $12 per month, providing creators with a blue check, priority customer support, and protection against impersonation. Businesses can now opt for verification on either Facebook or Instagram at a monthly cost of $22, or choose both platforms for $35 per month. This pricing represents an increase over the creator subscription, which ranges from $12 to $15 monthly.

Testing for this feature will commence on Facebook and Instagram in the coming weeks, with WhatsApp also set to follow suit. Verified businesses will receive benefits similar to creators, including enhanced account security features and troubleshooting support. Additionally, verified businesses will enjoy improved visibility in search results on both Facebook and Instagram. For WhatsApp, businesses will have the option to create a discoverable landing page via web search and allow multiple employees to engage with and assist customers.

Meta's venture into paid verification was prompted by developments at Elon Musk's X, formerly known as Twitter, where subscribers were offered the opportunity to purchase a blue check for a monthly fee. This move faced challenges, as users began to impersonate brands, celebrities, and even notable figures like the pope, using identical verified blue checkmarks. Earlier this month, X implemented an option for paid users to verify their identity through a government ID, hinting at the possibility of "additional benefits" in the future for users who choose to do so.

Meta's verification for businesses will necessitate compliance with specific activity and security criteria, and individuals applying for verification must demonstrate a genuine connection to the business.
